Lane's Cove

Location: Gloucester, MA
Exposure
: north
Depth: 60'
Entry: rocky

Description

The rocky entry at Lane's Cove is considerably easier than most other places on Cape Ann. On days when Cathedral Rocks are undivable due to Eastern swells, Lane's Cove is often a good alternative. A nice dive is to head out due North (heading 0'). About 400 feet out there is wall where depths of up to 60' can be encountered. For swallower dives, head out towards Northwest. Some parking available along the stone break-water.

Directions from Boston

  • Take Route 1 or Route 93 To Route 128 North.
  • Follow 128 to the first rotary (Grant Circle).
  • Go 3/4 of the way around Grant Circle, and take 127 south.
  • Follow 127 for ~4 miles, with the Annisquam on your left. After the tiny town of Lanesville, Rt 127 takes a right turn uphill, and there is a small road (Andrews Street) that continues straight (or a bit left). This is a dead end road that ends at the breakwater of Lane's Cove. If you get to Folly Cove on 127 you've gone too far.
