It is one of the most dangerous occupations in the United States. It also is one job that depends and interacts the most with the environment it is around. Commercial fishing can be very hazardous to the ocean and the animals that live in it. To keep the ocean form getting harmed the government produces rules and regulations to protect the ocean. The rules and regulations are broken down into three main sections. Prohibitions, fish size and gear requirements and restrictions are the three main areas. If a captain fails to keep up with the rules and regulation that are set forth then they can be fined, have his license taken away for a period of time or even have it taken away for life. Prohibition rules are ones that deal mainly with the boat and how it runs and operates. These rules are very fined tune and have to be monitored very closely. If a change in the info of the boat is made, such as the name of the boat, and it is not reported with in fifteen days, then the captain can be fined or lose his license. The name and marking of the boat are very important. The boat must have the boats name on the starboard side (right side) of the bow. If the boat fails to have to name on the starboard side or be missing any other important markings, such as registration marking then the captainТs license can be revoked. IF the government feels that a boat is not staying up to regulation then they can issues an observer to monitor the boat, and if the captain can not be refused by the captain. One of the biggest rules that are set forth by the government is the minimum fish size. These size requirements are there to keep premature fish from getting caught. If these requirements were not there then a species of fish could be killed out. With the minimum requirement it allows the younger fish to fully-grow and then reproduce to help keep the fish population are a healthy level. Some of the minimum size requirements are: Cod 19 inches, Haddock 19 inches, Pollock 19inches, Witch Flounder 14 inches, Atlantic Halibut 36 inches, Monk Fish 17 inches and 11 inches for the tail. The gear requirements and restrictions are made to limit the amount of fish that can be caught, and also so that they do not harm the fish and the ocean. Certain types of nets must be used for different times of the year what type of fish it is catching and also for were the boat is doing itsТ fishing. Some requirements of the nets are that the nets for monkfish must have vessel number or ownerТs name of the net so it can be seen from the top of the water. Gill nets cannot exceed a distance of six hundred and sixty six feet between to two boyees. The boyees are what hold the mouth of the net open. For the boat to even be able to leave the dock and to be able to operate on a regular bases, it must posses certain permits and licenses and other things. The captain must have a vessel permit, an operatorТs permit, and a dealer or processors permit. The boat must also have its proper edification markings to be able to operate. While operating the boat must keep track of the days that it fishes, and reports on the catches that it makes. If fail to does so can result in the lose of license and permits and the captain can be fined. All of these rules though are domestic to the North East region of the Untied States and that foreign rules are different. ,╞∙ OJQJ^J,/9OPKL| } ═ ╬ /0╞¤їЁЁїыыыыыыыыыdh$a$$dha$╞■ 1Рh░╨/ ░р=!░а"░а#Ра$Ра%░ i8@ё 8 NormalCJ_HaJmH sH tH <A@Є б< Default Paragraph Font@>`Є@ Title$dha$5БCJOJQJ\Б^J╞     ,/9OPKL|}═╬/ 0 ╚ Ш0ААШ0ААШ0ААШ0ААШ0ААШ0ААШ0ААШ0ААШ0ААШ0ААЪ0ААЪ0ААЪ0ААЪ0АА╞ ╞ ╞ 48Є ° ■ ╚ ╚ 3+N┼ ╚    cory dion]C:\WINDOWS\Profiles\sid149\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\AutoRecovery save of Document1.asd cory dion2A:\Gulf of Maine Fishing Rules and Regulations.docDr Dean GoodwinRC:\DOCUME~1\dgoodwin\LOCALS~1\Temp\Gulf of Maine Fishing Rules and Regulations.docDr Dean GoodwinrC:\Documents and Settings\dgoodwin\My Documents\MARINE SCIENCE-AAB\Gulf of Maine Fishing Rules and Regulations.doc @А88мЦВ88╞ `@  Unknown            GРЗz А Times New Roman5РАSymbol3&Р Зz А Arial"qИЁ╨hhelЖhelЖ■[ !Ёаа┤┤ББ20dЄ 2ГЁ  +Gulf of Maine Fishing Rules and Regulations cory dionDr Dean Goodwin■ рЕЯЄ∙OhлС+'│┘0ШРШ╠╪ь° ,8 T ` lxАИРф,Gulf of Maine Fishing Rules and Regulationsulf cory dionnoryoryNormaliDr Dean Goodwin2 DMicrosoft Word 9.0n@@└]юPв┬@└]юPв┬■[ ■ ╒═╒Ь.УЧ+,∙о0 hp|ДМФ Ьдм┤ ╝ ЇфoЄ 2 ,Gulf of Maine Fishing Rules and Regulations Title ■   ■   ■    !"#$■   ¤   '■   ■   ■                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Root Entry         └FЁЁ┐ўPв┬)А1Table             WordDocument        "SummaryInformation(    DocumentSummaryInformation8            CompObj    jObjectPool            ЁЁ┐ўPв┬ЁЁ┐ўPв┬            ■                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           ■       └FMicrosoft Word Document MSWordDocWord.Document.8Ї9▓q
