World Elementary School. Nashua, NH. Ann Cohen (1st-4th)
Capt. Dennis Robillard. F/V Julie Ann and F/V April Nichole. Portsmouth, NH

February 2003
Our partnership with Dennis is going well. A few weeks ago he came out to the school to talk to our kids. They asked him questions for 3 hours straight! Our students captured his visit on video - we are working on movie making in computer class, and we intend to make some type of video around our adopt-a-boat experience by year end.

1. We have had a number of email contacts with Dennis. Our students had lots of questions for Dennis and he had lots of answers. The kids really like Dennis' writing style and are enjoying these initial contacts a lot.

2. We did our initial survey a while ago, I just need to send it to you which I will this month. Sha's class has 9 students (the Adopt-a-Boat teacher at World Elementary). This is our initial focus group for the Adopt-a-Boat program for this year, but if this works as well as I anticipate we may widen this to other classrooms next year.

3. Dennis is planning to visit our school sometime in the next few months. We are working on timing....

4. We are waiting for 2 weather stations to be set up to work in our major curricular piece.

5. During a conference, I met 2 teachers from a 5th grade class in Portsmouth which is exciting because that's where Dennis docks. We may be connecting with them thru email and talking with them about what we're doing in the Adopt-a-Boat program. They too are covering weather this year and the teachers think their kids may have questions for us about weather relating to our activities! This may substantially add to the number of students benefitted by our Adopt-a-Boat activity if this connection works.

6. Dennis also emailed us the link to a web site on fish which we are using with our students.
