XL Hybrids (XLH) has developed a unique hybrid electric conversion system for commercial vehicles. Our hybrid electric systems can be installed in less than 1 day on existing or new commercial fleet vehicles, including shuttle, service, and delivery vans and is designed to reduce fuel consumption of urban vehicles by 20%. The hybrid powertrain – working in parallel with the existing driveline – stores energy during braking and reapplies it during acceleration. The result is a more efficient and cost-effective fleet, which operates with the same reliability, while generating significantly fewer harmful emissions, including greenhouse gases. Our technology is designed and priced to generate a fast payback while reducing emissions in addition to reducing customer exposure to future fuel price volatility.
The project that we are proposing is to perform a market study with potential customers to determine a go/no-go business case for a second, complimentary product: bundled telematics software and services. Our customers are Fortune 500 companies with large fleets of vehicles. Our hybrid system comes with an integrated wireless device to transmit data to/from XLH’s central server (prototype is already developed) where we can analyze vehicle data and maintain a customer portal for access to analysis. Fleets currently purchase telematics software– anything from vehicle GPS to vehicle maintenance and analysis features - and it is a large and growing market. However, there are very few software packages in the market focused on vehicle efficiency analytics or integration with alternative vehicles. We would like the MIT team to work XLH to understand our vision, to learn of the features that we can offer in the short and medium-term, and perform a business analysis for this product. This analysis may include:
- Competitive analysis of competing products/features/companies
- Customer study to understand desired (and/or unavailable) features from different segments of our customer base
- Pricing analysis, especially as a bundled solution together with our core hybrid product
- Market entry strategy and potential competitive response
