Camel's Milk Project, Kenya

In northeast Kenya, camel’s milk is a primary source of food. Yet upwards of 40% of the milk is contaminated by the time it reaches customers due to hot temperatures and poor hygiene practices in the milking process. The SEID team worked with rural Kenyans and the Millennium Development Goals Center to create:

- Supply chain innovations for improving hygiene in camel’s milk process

- Economically viable cooling points to prevent milk spoilage

- A business plan for funding rural cooperatives to improve distribution

These changes will enable better nutrition through safer milk, and increased surety of income for the women entrepreneurs selling the milk.
