What We Do
SEID seeks to realize its mission through a multi-pronged approach:
Projects. SEID connects students with entrepreneurs to deliver discrete projects during a semester, ranging from market studies to financial models to business plans. Through SEID, student teams receive support in the form of mentorship, project management tools, and networking opportunities. See [Projects Page Link] for examples of past projects.
Office Hours. SEID partners with other MIT and Boston organizations to host Office Hours and other forums focused on addressing a particular problem or geography. These forums spur new project collaborations and opportunities for dialogue on global development through entrepreneurship.
Speakers/Events. SEID regularly brings in speakers from around the world to discuss challenges and success models of entrepreneurship abroad. Examples of past speakers and events include: Paul Hudnut, “BOPreneur”; a screening of documentary on the MIT Legatum Center Africa Business Plan Competition; Tricia Gonwa of MIT’s Poverty Action Lab; Africa Night at the Muddy; Joost Bonsen, MIT Lecturer and Instructor of Development Ventures; Sandeep Ahuja, CEO of Operation ASHA in India; and past 100K Development Track finalists who have gone on to launch their ventures, to name a few.
Career opportunities. SEID works with the MIT Sloan Career Office to connect students with international projects and consulting firms, by creating and disseminating a student resume book to companies and organizations.
