How do I get my MIT ID card activated for access to my lab/residency/building?

Each Department/Lab/Center has individuals known as “Gatekeepers”.  These Gatekeepers work in conjunction with the Security and Emergency Management Office (SEMO). Although SEMO operates the access control system, access authorization to a secured space is controlled at the department/lab/center level by the Gatekeepers.  To find out who your area’s Gatekeeper is, contact your department’s building management or operations person.

What should I do when my MIT ID card will not grant access to a secured area that I am authorized to have?

In the event that your MIT ID card is not functioning, you will need to take the following steps:  note the date, approximate time and location of the failed access attempt.  Forward this information, via email, along with your name and MIT ID number to the Security and Emergency Management Office.  A representative from the office will determine what needs to be done to resolve the issue and follow up with you.
