EVENT: CELEBRATION OF THE STATEHOOD DAY OF SERBIA
DATE: Saturday, February 15th 2003.
TIME: 7pm
PLACE: MIT Room 4-237
LANGUAGE: Serbian.
DESCRIPTION: We will show a documentary movie "The Calvary of Serbia" (serbian: "Golgota Srbije"), a Serbian movie, without English subtitles. Details that follow are also in Serbian.
DOKUMENTARNI FILM:"Golgota Srbije," autenticni snimci ratnih operatera 1914 - 1918.
PROIZVODNJA: Artistik film (1940), Jugoslovenska kinoteka (1993).
TRAJANJE: 90 minuta.
MUZIKA: Milenko Zivkovic.
JEZIK: Srpski, NIJE titlovan na engleski.
OPIS FILMA: Najbolje predratno beogradsko privatno filmsko preduzece "Artistik film," vlasnistvo Andreje Glisica i Zarija Djokica, prihvatilo je ideju poznatog patriote, knjizevnika i filmskog reditelja Stanislava Krakova da realizuju film o Srbiji i srpskim stradanjima i pobedama u prvom svetskom ratu.

EVENT: A LECTURE ON ETHNOMUSICOLOGY
TITLE:
Musical Exchange of Shepherds in South-Eastern Serbia
(Relic of An Ancient Musical Practice)

DATE:April 20th 2002.
TIME:6:30pm
LOCATION: MIT Room 6-120
LANGUAGE: English.
DESCRIPTION: Ethnomusicologist Ranko Stevanovic will present the results of several years of his on-site research, illustrated with original sound recordings and photographs, discussing an area of folk heritage which has not been the focus of ethnomusicologists in the past. He will explore in detail the melody, rhythm, harmony, form, and function of this particularly articulated speech of shepherds, their manner of communication with animals, in addition to their use of bells. A thorough analysis is undoubtedly justified, in view of the fact that the sheperds' primitive musical exchange gave rise to the development of numerous subsequent vocal and instrumental forms.

About the lecturer

Ranko Stevanovic obtained his M.A. degree at the Department of Ethnomusicology of the Belgrade Music Academy. He is the author of several papers and has lectured at international meetings of ethnomusicologists. Additionally, he has collected and published anthologies of traditional children's games and songs. Ranko Stevanovic has been living in Boston, MA, since 2000, and works with the Family Music Makers on Early Children's Music Education.

EVENT: CELEBRATION OF THE STATEHOOD DAY OF SERBIA
DATE: Friday, February 15th 2002.
TIME: 7pm
PLACE: MIT Room 4-237
LANGUAGE: Serbian
COST: Free!
DESCRIPTION: We will show "March on Drina" (serbian: "Mars na Drinu"), a Serbian movie, without English subtitles. Details that follow are also in Serbian.
FILM: "Mars na Drinu", rezisera Zike Mitrovica (1964).
TRAJANJE: 102 minuta.
JEZIK: Srpski, NIJE titlovan na engleski.
ULOGE: Ljuba Tadic, Aleksandar Gavric, Nikola Jovanovic, Vlada Popovic, Gidra Bojanic.
MUZIKA: Vasilije Mokranjac, Stanislav Binicki.
ZANR: Ratni.
Svi oni, oficiri i redovi, gradjani i seljaci, bogatasi i siromasi, sa sobom u bitku nose svoje sumnje, brige i radosti. Ovo nije hronika Cerske bitke, vec drama srpskog naroda u teskim ratnim vremenima (DELTA KLASICI).

O novim drzavnim praznicima mozete vise procitati ovde.
