Brief Notes and Reviews

Stefan Milenkovich, was celebrated as a child prodigy. Following his Christmas concert in the White House where he was invited to play for President Ronald Reagan at the age of 10, he played for Mikhail Gorbachev at the age of 11 and at the Vatican for Pope John Paul II at the age of 14. At eleven, he made his London debut with the London Philharmonic under Lorin Maazel and had his first taste of a full-size violin when the Italian Cultural Ministry invited him to play on the famous 1742 Guarneri tha once belonged to Paganini. Currently, Mr. Milenkovich owns a 1738 Camillo Camilli and is performing on a 1702 Stradivarius on extended loan through the Stradivari Society. Mr. Milenkovich gave his 1000th concert when he was 16. Before he turned 16 he won top prizes at many prestigious international competitions such as: Rodolfo Lipizer (Italy), Ludwig Spohr (Germany), Paganini (Italy), Tibor Varga (Switzerland), Yehudi Menuhin (United Kingdom), the Queen Elisabeth International Competition of Belgium, Hanover (Germany),etc. He was awarded the Silver Medal and the special prize for the Best Paganini Performance in 1994 at the Indianapolis when he was 17 - the youngest player ever to win a medal at that competition. He has appeared as a soloist with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the Helsinki Philharmonic, the Orchestra of Radio-France, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Belgrade Philharmonic, the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra, the Mexico State Symphony, the Orquesta Sinfonica de Estado de Sao Paolo in Brazil, and the Melbourne and Qeensland symphonies inAustralia. Mr. Milenkovich is currently a teaching fellow at Juilliard's DeLay Institute. He divides his offwork time between Italy and New York City. More information about him can be found at Young Concert Artists, Inc. and Stefan Milenkovich - The No Joke Page. You can listen to some pieces played by Stefan on this page.
