Your Mailbox Has Been Moved
Mailboxes move around from time to time to keep MIT's mail system
serving 24,706 users working efficiently. With the use of Hesiod found
in many versions of Eudora and Athena applications, such changes are
normally transparent. If you received a your mailbox has been moved
message from a post office, here's what you might need to do:
- Restart your application. Applications normally
determine the correct post office on startup but never refresh that
information.
- Eudora Users: if restarting did not work, choose
the Settings from the Special menu (Eudora for the Mac) or choose
Options from the Tools menu (Eudora for Windows) and do one of the
following: (general configuration information can be found at http://mit.edu/is/help/eudora).
- Eudora version 2 and version 3: update your your POP Account setting to
your-username@new-po.mit.edu where new-po.mit.edu is the name of the
machine returned to you in the mail message. Make sure the post office
name is in lower case.
- Eudora version 4: update your Mail Host setting (Eudora for the Mac) or
Mail Server (Incoming) setting (Eudora for Windows) to
your-username@new-po.mit.edu where new-po.mit.edu is the name of the
machine returned to you in the mail message.
- Athena users: your workstation may be caching the
old information. Information is cached for about 30 minutes.
If you need assistance with this change, contact the Computing Help Desk
at 253-1101 (Eudora for the Macintosh) or 253-1102 (Eudora for Windows). If you
are using an Athena workstation, contact a consultant via olc.
