About SfGS

Students for Global Sustainability (SfGS) is an undergraduate and graduate student organization committed to sustainable development and conservation projects on both the global and local levels. SfGS is a member organization of the World Student Community for Sustainable Development (WSC-SD), an international partnership seeking to promote sustainable development in research, education, and day-to-day collaborations among tomorrow's scientists, engineers and policy-makers.

Upcoming Events

  • First week of April - Green Politics Series, with a workshop on how to write effective letters to policy-makers and influential officials and a panel discussion on the environment and energy policies of the presidential candidates.
  • April 23, 5-7 pm, Stata Center - EcoExpo 2008, a showcase of student projects related to sustainability, energy, and the environment!
  • Earth Week (week of April 21, 2008) - a week-long celebration of sustainability at MIT! Including a showing of King Corn.

Past Events

On March 3, guest speakers Michael Shellenberger and Ted Nordhaus (authors of "The Death of Environmentalism" and Break Through) spoke on "Clean Energy Revolution: Creating a Transformational Student Movement." SfGS had its first FreeMeet at the beginning of term! SfGS co-organized a series of environmental film screenings together with several other campus groups and departments in both IAP 2007 and 2008. In April 2007, SfGS coordinated the inaugural year of the Eco Expo, an annual event that occurs during MIT's celebration of Earth Week.
