Enrolled undergraduates –
international students

For the 2014-2015 academic year

If you wish to apply for scholarship, loan and job assistance from MIT, please submit the following documents no later than April 15, 2014. We read applications in the order they are completed, so the earlier you get your application documents in to us, the earlier you will have you financial aid award letter.

Please make sure to complete and include our cover letter when submitting documentation.

You can track the status of your financial aid application by checking MyMIT. Remember to keep copies of all your application documents. Also keep in mind that after you're awarded financial aid, there are additional steps you must take before your aid is disbursed. Those steps are outlined on our finalizing undergraduate awards page.

All documentation sent to MIT should include a completed cover letter.
CSS PROFILE

Designate MIT as a recipient by using our CSS code number of 3514 and answer the CSS Supplemental Questions specific to MIT. If your parents are separated or divorced, fill out the Profile with your custodial parent's information.

Non-Custodial Parent's Profile

If your parents are separated or divorced, your non-custodial parent must file this form.

Once you complete the CSS PROFILE, CSS will e-mail you application instructions, including a link to the Noncustodial Parent's PROFILE web site and login instructions, to send to your noncustodial parent.

Parents' 2013 Income Tax Returns or wage statement (translated into English)

 

Send a signed copy of all pages of your parents' most recent income tax returns, if applicable, to Student Financial Services. You may email a scanned copy of a non-U.S. tax return to intldocs@mit.edu.

If your country does not have an annual income tax form, send a letter from each parent's employer stating the annual salary earned in local currency.

If your parents are separated or divorced, income documentation for your non-custodial parent is also required.

Translate all materials into English, but report the amounts in your local currency.

Write your name and "Class of 2018" at the top of all materials.

CSS Business/Farm Supplement

This form will only be required if we request it from you.  If your parent(s) are self-employed or have any ownership in a business, please make sure you answer those questions correctly on the CSS Profile.

Additional information

    If your family has special circumstances or unusual expenses, or you have any other information that will help us understand their financial situation more completely, please send us a letter detailing that information.

If you wish to apply for or renew your scholarship, loan and job assistance from MIT, your financial aid application is due April 15, 2013. Financial aid award decisions are sent in mid-June. Mail or fax all documents directly to Student Financial Services. Remember to keep copies of all your application documents. Also keep in mind that after you are awarded financial aid there are additional steps you must take before your aid is disbursed.

Please make sure to complete and include our cover letter when submitting documentation.

Late financial aid applicants may be penalized by having some MIT Scholarship eligibility replaced by self-help. If you have extenuating circumstances that will delay completion of your financial aid application, please contact your financial aid counselor before April 15 to request a deadline extension.

CSS Business/Farm Supplement

If either of your parents is self-employed or owns any part of a business or farm, s/he must complete a CSS Business/Farm Supplement as part of the CSS PROFILE application for each business or farm in which any interest is held.

If your parents did not complete this as part of the CSS PROFILE application, please download this form and submit it directly to Student Financial Services. You may email a scanned copy to intldos@mit.edu.

Important Sites Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
When you complete the FAFSA online, be sure that you and your parents obtain PIN numbers to sign electronically or submit the signature page as instructed. MIT's FAFSA Code is 002178.

CSS Profile
Apply online at the College Board website. MIT's CSS code is 3514. MIT receives your profile data electronically from CSS so you do not send copies or printouts of your application to MIT.
