16.31 is the pillar 2 class in Controls. Students had mixed comments about Prof. Paduano. There were many comments that mistakes in lectures, problem sets, and tests made the class difficult and frustrating. Some students noted that Prof. Paduano had difficulty in understanding their questions and several students commented that lectures always ran late. However other students also felt that Prof. Paduano was very knowledgable on the material and willing to help them in office hours. In general students felt that more organization to the lectures and overall course structure would help.

In general the students felt that the class was thorough and introduced fundamental ideas for MIMO control but that more examples of the difficult material were needed. Students on the whole liked that the lectures and problem sets were application-based. Some suggested that a recitation section could be used to do more examples. Students felt that the recommended texts were useful and many suggested that there should be a required text for the course. Additional texts mentioned by the students included "Control Theory" by Ogata and a text by Friedland. Students cited the recommended texts, lectures, problem sets, other students, and discussions with the professor as important to learning the material.

Students felt that basic undergrad control theory and facility with Matlab were required to perform well in the class. Several students commented an H-level rating would be more appropriate for this course.

"Learned a lot but really difficult"
