The Constitution of the
Student Health Advisory Committee
Article I: Purpose
The purpose of the Student
Health Advisory Committee is to facilitate communication between MIT
Medical and the student body. We provide a unifying organization for
the student health groups on campus.
Article II: Membership
- Any member of the
MIT community is eligible to become a member of this organization. One
is considered a member of this organization in any given academic term
if he or she has attended at least one club activity/meeting in the
preceding or current term.
- The organization’s
membership will at all times consist of at least 5 MIT students and
be more than half MIT students.
- This organization
will not discriminate based on any characteristic listed in MIT's Nondiscrimination
Statement.
- The organization
will not charge dues.
Article III: Officers
- This organization
will have five officers:
- Two Co-Chairs
- The co-chairs shall
be the official representatives of the group to any other organization
and to MIT.
- The co-chairs will
preside over all meetings.
- The co-chairs are
responsible for determining when meetings are and publicizing this to
the group.
- The co-chairs are
required to sign all checks/vouchers of the group and be responsible
for the finances of the group.
- Three Project Coordinators
- The project coordinators
shall be responsible for coordinating individual events.
- The project coordinators
are required to recruit SHAC general body members/request members from
SHAC liaisons for specific events and report back to co-chairs.
- All officers of
this organization must be distinct persons and MIT students.
- Elections:
- Elections of officers
shall occur in April.
- Any member of this
organization is eligible to run for office.
- Quorum for elections
is three out of five of the SHAC executive board.
- Any member is elected
if he or she wins a majority of the voting members and receives approval
from the MIT Medical advisors.
- If more than two
people are running and no one wins a majority, then the person with
the fewest votes is dropped from the ballot and votes are recast.
- The term of office
runs from May 1 until April 30.
- Removal: Officers
may be removed by a majority vote of the SHAC executive board and the
approval of the MIT Medical advisors.
Article IV: Meetings
- Executive meetings
shall be held at least twice every month
- Meetings shall be
presided over by the co-chairs, unless they are absent, and in that
case the project coordinators shall preside.
- All decisions shall
be made by a majority vote of all the SHAC executive board members present.
- Quorum for a meeting
shall be four out of five members of the SHAC executive board.
Article V: Amendments
- Amendments shall
be presented by any member of the organization.
- Amendments shall
be passed by a majority vote of the SHAC executive board and approval
of the MIT Medical advisors.
- Quorum for amending
this constitution shall be four out of five members of the SHAC executive
board.
Article VI: ASA Governance
Clause
The Student Health Advisory
Council agrees to abide by the rules and regulations of the Association
of Student Activities, and its executive board. This constitution, amendments
to it, and the by-laws of this organization shall be subject to review
by the ASA Executive Board to insure that they are in accordance with
the aforementioned rules and regulations.
