I'm primarily interested in auditory source segregation and the ability of people to extract meaningful sounds in situations with a lot of background noise, which is called the "cocktail party problem". The approach I am taking is through computational modeling of the auditory system using biologically-inspired models for improved signal analysis. Currently I am working on a project investigating auditory grouping cues and how auditory object formation interacts with spatial cues to determine perceived location.

My interest in audio extends outside of academics, with a (rather expensive) hobby in music recording and production. I primarily work with local collegiate a cappella groups to record and produce albums, though I do some instrumental recording and editing as well. I also play piano and sing, but have focused much more on production over performance recently. Other interests include biking and rollerblading, the occasional pickup sport game of almost any variety (but preferably soccer or frisbee), and food - because food is delicious.
