A little about me ...

I was born in a small town called Maun in the beautiful country of Botswana. Maun is close to the Okavango Delta and is considered to be the tourism capital of the country. I lived there with my family till I was six, when we moved to Gaborone, the capital city of Botswana. There I went to Northside Primary School, of which I still have the fondest memories.
At the age of thirteen I moved with my family to India, our home country. We lived in New Delhi, where I went to Oxford Senior Secondary School. After completing school I joined St. Stephen's College at the University of Delhi to study mathematics. I formed some of the best friendships and had some of the best teachers at St. Stephen's. It was also during these years that I came to love India.
On completing my mathematics degree I received a scholarship to study computer science at Trinity College at the University of Cambridge in U.K. Cambridge is a wonderful place to study and to learn. During my two years there I fell into the trap of always wanting to know more, and that is when I decided to take up research as a career. Cambridge is also where I met Shiladitya, my husband and best friend.
My next stop was the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where I earned my doctorate in computer science. There I learned to live with the cold winters, and I learned to love the cornfields. The years that I spent there were the years that really prepared me to face the world.
Finally, I came here to MIT, where I am enjoying teaching and learning. I have met many wonderful people here, people who are passionate about what they do. It is a coincidence that it is in another Cambridge that that thirst to know more feels so strong again. It is also here that Shiladitya and I are finally together again, in one place that we can call home.
