Summer 2013 Practice
Sign Up Now for summer classes whether you are a new or continuing student!
In June 2013 we will be holding our unique Shotokan through Yellow Belt course, an intensive course designed to introduce new students to Shotokan Karate to the level of yellow belt in one month. The course syllabus can be found here.
The course is $45, with the first week free, and will include a free uniform, tournament quality sparring gear, and our reference textbook Kudensho. If you choose to become a member of the club, the course fee will be credited towards the standard $30/semester dues.
In parallel with Shotokan through Yellow Belt, the club will be having two more courses. Shotokan through Green Belt will be running for the second time and will cover forms up through green belt as well as intermediate level sparring techniques such as sweeps and introductory sen no sen training. Typically students first complete Shotokan through Yellow Belt, but students with prior experience in Shotokan or a similar martial art are welcome to sign up. We will also for the first time be offering Thinking like a Brown Belt, a course for intermediate students to introduce advanced techniques such as sparring strategy, advanced kata, and introductory teaching techniques. These courses are free for everyone up to date on club dues.
For continuing students, Special Summer Practices at Tufts will be on Sundays from 12-3pm. Please email the club officers if you would like to attend these special weekly seminars with Sensei Tabata.
If you have any questions, please contact shotokan-karate-officers@mit.edu.

Grandmaster Kazumi Tabata was so impressed with Vazrik's performance that he was promoted to 3kyu Brown Belt on the spot and asked to compete in advanced kumite as well. Emily Rosser, an orange belt, was bumped up to the intermediate kumite division at the last minute, where she made a valiant effort and managed to place second despite having less experience than her opponents.
