Born and raised in India (for the most part anyway), I had a great childhood. I picked up reading from my mother and would often spend nights getting through an interesting book. My interest in electronics comes from my grandfather, who would often take apart household appiliances just to explain how they worked, and my father, a software engineer, who also got me interested in computer science and programming. While my hobbies kept me busy, what really got me thinking about a career path was an internship with the Center for Environment Education (an Indian Non Profit) in the 11th grade. Talking to my seniors at CEE got me interested in environmental policy and climate change and I started thinking about pursuing a related career. I find the idea of environmentally sustainable development particularly attractive and it's because of this that I chose to major in Environmental Engineering. I am also minoring in Economics and focusing specifically on Developmental Econ. My interest in low cost technology was cultivated during my work at the MIT D-Lab, which focuses on a 'hands on' approach to technical problems in the developing world. During my two years at MIT, I have had the good fortune of interacting with interesting students and faculty and have learned a lot about developmental and environmental issues. In addition to my environmental background, I know my way around a machine shop and like working with electronics. I also enjoy computer programming and am particularly interested in mobile application development. |
