Next: [Re]Starting the Webster Server
Up: Services
Previous: SIPB AFS Backups
Currently there is a webster server on yaz and charon. Administrative
details include:
-
- A hesiod entry for ``webster.sloc'' which points to one (or
more) webster servers.
-
- /mit/dictionary points to /afs/athena/project/webster
-
- It gets restarted at 4:33 every morning, to save on memory
consumption.
-
- There is an entry in /etc/ttys to restart it automatically in
case it dies or is killed off.
-
- Webster uses UDP-based Sun RPC as a transport. This means that
there isn't an /etc/services entry for it, the procedure number is
compiled into the program.
(Much of this can be gleaned from project/office-machines or the
sources, and you should look in both of those places to be really sure
of the details.)
