Though some Spotlights do run multiple days - for example Friday's spot usually runs through the weekend, we work very hard to maintain the daily-changing tradition. We've combed our servers and have compiled a digital archive of the Institute home page through the years - well over 2000 images. Enjoy!

Try, try again? Study says noToday’s Spotlight features an animation by Christine Daniloff/MIT.

When it comes to learning languages, adults and children have different strengths. Adults excel at absorbing the vocabulary needed to navigate a grocery store or order food in a restaurant, but children have an uncanny ability to pick up on subtle nuances of language that often elude adults. Within months of living in a foreign country, a young child may speak a second language like a native speaker.

When clinicians in a Boston‑area hospital wish there was a device that could meet some specific need, they have a chance to do something about it: They can add it to a wish list to be presented each fall to a class of mechanical engineering students at MIT. These budding engineers then spend a semester coming up with ideas, and eventually prototypes, to solve selected problems.
