recommended courses
If you're interested in studying sciences or engineering at college, or going to a competitive univerity to study business or other fields, consider the general requirements the schools have for admissions and your school has for graduation.
Typically, you should have a background in
Four years of high school math, up to or including calculus. Engineering isn't all math, but it's important background material.
Science classes. Engineering schools require at least two years of science classes, but if you have the interest and space in your schedule, taking more is a good idea. These include physics, biology, and chemistry. If you want to challenge yourself, try the honors or Advanced Placement sections.
Science and math classes are most important, but any electives that require creativity, analytical thought, or a different way of thinking are good preparation. Consider things like
Foreign languages - continue to higher levels, even start a new one.

Computer science
Art and Music courses
If you are looking for something unique that your high school doesn't offer, see if you can take it at a local college or even learn it independently through books or the internet.
