Here are some examples of ideal nomination letters:
Individual nominee:
For the past two years I have had the great pleasure of working with Chris. As the treasurer of the XYZ House for the past 2 terms, she has upheld amazing standards of professionalism, conscientiousness, and enjoyment in her work with the board. Not only is she remarkably prompt and reliable in performing her duties as treasurer, but she goes beyond her job description in many ways. Chris’ timeliness in completing and submitting reimbursement forms and resolving other financial issues has been a huge help in planning events; she has also researched, written, and defended supplementary funding applications for every cycle of the GSC funding board, the GSC activites committee, and the Large Event Fund. Chris maintains an updated budget available to all officers in real time, so any of us can assess our funding situation as needed while planning future events and purchases. All these tasks are part of her job as treasurer, yet she does them with such goodwill and pride in her work that it improves the whole tenor of the group and enables us to make best use of every dollar in our budget.
The position of treasurer is inevitably demanding of time and resources, but Chris does not restrict her role to performing only the tasks I mentioned above. In addition to expertly fulfilling the responsibilities in her job description, Chris takes an active role in planning and executing every major event on the calendar, including yard sales, late-night breakfasts, parties, biweekly socials, and anything else we undertake. Chris is also fun to work with and never acts as if all this work were a burden. It is my pleasure to recommend her for an Outstanding Leader award.
Group nominee:
Dear Selection Committee:
MIT’s Performing Dance Group (PDG) is the largest dance organization at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with 120 undergraduate and graduate students, alums, staff and MIT community dancing in this semester's concert. It is an entirely student-run group dedicated to bringing a variety of dance style to everyone in the MIT community, regardless of level.
Every semester, various dance classes are offered to members and one full length concert is produced. The PDG concerts are some of the most highly anticipated and well-attended events on campus. PDG produces one concert every semester, usually with five shows over the course of one weekend. Concerts are made up entirely of dances choreographed by students, and often include dance styles such as hip hop, jazz, ballet, tap, modern, and more, with placement by audition at the beginning of each semester. PDG fosters a love of dance, a forum for continued practice and performance for student!
PDG gives students an opportunity to learn and master choreography and production, and one of the most extensive technical theater opportunities offered by a student group. PDG stands out as a dance group which accepts all levels and styles and approaches to dancing, accommodating them equally and producing consistently high caliber shows from a range of beginner dancers, choreographers, and lighting designers to semi-professional for the joy of it. I am happy to nominate PDG for the “Outstanding Event Award.”
