Victor Wong graduated from Dartmouth College with a B.A. degree in 1974 and from Indiana/Purdue University with an M.B.A. degree. He completed his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1976 and 1978 respectively. His industry experience includes a brief period at Detroit Diesel Allison and at Cummins Engine Company from 1978-1986. At Cummins, he has been Group Leader and Head of the Combustion Research Department, Project Leader in Diesel Particulate Control Technology, and Manager and Technical Advisor of Engine Cooling and Lubrication Systems. In 1986, he returned to M.I.T. as Manager of the Sloan Automotive Laboratory and Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Currently at M.I.T., he is also a Principal Research Scientist in the Laboratory for Energy and Environment and Program Manager of the Transportation Propulsion Program. His current research activities include modeling and experimental diagnostics of lubricant films in I.C. engines, clean diesel technologies, engine combustion and emissions, heat transfer and lubrication studies for the application of advanced materials. He received the 1991 and 2001 SAE Lubricant Awards and 1994 SAE Arch T. Colwell Merit Award for outstanding contributions to the technical literature, as well as an ASME IC Engine Division Citation in 1999 for outstanding contribution in the field of engine lubrication.
