Speaker's Biography

Yasheng Huang is one of the new Faculty at MIT Sloan School of Management. Prior coming to MIT Sloan, he was an Associate Professor at Harvard Business School. He joined HBS faculty in 1997, and his previous appointments include assistant professor at the University of Michigan and consultant to the World Bank between 1987 and 1989. He received his BA in 1985 and Ph.D. in Government in 1991, both from Harvard University.

Yasheng Huang has held or received prestigious fellowships such as the National Fellowship at Stanford University and the Social Science Research Council-MacArthur Fellowship. Outside HBS, Professor Huang is a Faculty Associate at the Center for International Affairs and Fairbank Center at Harvard University, a Fellow at the Center for Chinese Economic Research at Tsinghua University and the Institute of International Relations at Peking University, a Fellow at the William Davidson Institute at Michigan Business School and a World Economic Forum Fellow.

Professor Huang's research focuses on government policies and institutional issues, especially in the transitional, socialist economies and in East Asian economies. His current work examines institutional and policy drivers of foreign direct investments in China. He has published widely, including two books, Inflation and Investment Controls in China (Cambridge University Press, 1996) and FDI in China (Singapore: Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, 1998). He is currently working on a book tracing the institutional roots of China's high demand for FDI. In addition to professional journals and edited volumes, Professor Huang has also published op-ed pieces in the New York Times, Asian Wall Street Journal, International Herald Tribune, and Foreign Policy.
