About Mr. David S.
Sobel
David Sobel is Chief of Poverty Reduction and
Senior Country Program Officer at ADB's resident mission in PR China, where he
has worked since it opened in 2000. Mr. Sobel has worked on China operations at
ADB for 9 of his 13 years at ADB. He studied Chinese as an undergraduate, and
studied development and trade policy as a graduate student at the Kennedy School
at Harvard. Mr. Sobel is also Chief of External Relations and ICT at the
Beijing office, and is in charge of the internship program open to graduate
students. Since 1998, he has concentrated on China's poverty situation,
including spending three months in Shaanxi Province studying the poverty
reduction system in poor villages, townships, and counties. That research led to
several projects for which he is responsible at ADB, and which he will discuss
at this talk.
