As part of the first official MIT Sloan Study Tour to Ghana, MIT Sloan also hosted the first ever West Africa Networkin Reception. This event was geared towards bringing together the MIT alumni community in West Africa along with business and political leaders of the Ghana to mingle and network with current MIT Sloan students as well as provide a forum for prospective MIT students to showcase MIT as a place for building bridges with West Africa and a place for training future leaders of the world.

The highly successful Networking Reception was held on Tuesday, March 25th evening at the Africa Regency Hotel in Accra and was sponsored by International Development Research Centre (IDRC). The event was attended by over 80 participants which included 8 MIT alums in West African region, 28 current MIT Sloan students, 15 entrepreneurs and 20 business and political leaders.

Reactions from the event was overwhelmingly positive as all participants shared a common sentiment of establishing a thriving working relationship with MIT and local businesses. Discussing the event, Dr. Yaw Akoto said that "This is a novel idea to get together MIT alumni in the sub-region", and Kojo Siaw Ofori-Atta observed that "I hope this will be the first of several annual meetings in the future".

Participants discussed at length the various possibilities of mutual interaction, learning and growth. There were also discussions about immediate impact and learning through engagements in projects and other related ventures. Infact, one of the first year MBA candidates from MIT Sloan actually secured an inernship offer through this networking event and is returning to Ghana this summer!

We hope that we will continue to expand the connections from MIT to the West Africa business community through events such as these and look forward to meaningful interactions in the future.
