Mary Phaphan's Interview with Superstar Eric Chang, MBA '08
Marylicious: “So Eric, you had a chance
to sing Aerosmith on Ghanaian radio. That’s crazy!
What was it like being in the DJ booth?”
Eric: “They took us to the station,
right? Victor’s friend is a DJ and has a radio
show that runs nation-wide. They play hip hop
music. We waited for a little bit before Victor’s
friend came out… with some alcohol!!! Apparently,
his friend wanted to welcome us properly – that’s
why he brought the alcohol.”
Marylicious: “What kind of alcohol?”
Eric:“Vodka. I think we drank it with
ice cubes. That was funny since I already drank
some alcohol before the show already.”
Marylicious: “Do you think it made you
sing better?”
Eric: “I don’t know; I don’t think so.
I think though – I understand if you drink hard
liquor (instead of beer) you can sing better.
I recommend vodka, whiskey for anyone who wants
to sing better.” “Anyway, we finally went into
the booth. The DJ was playing music so Emi started
to take pictures and videos of everyone in the
booth. Then Victor started to introduce me by
singing “Taiwanese Seduction” to his friends.
We finally got on the radio – the DJ introduced
me on the radio as a special guest from MIT who
had a special song for all his Ghanaian friends.”
Marylicious: “How did you decide what
to sing? Why Aerosmith?”
Eric: “I don’t know – it just came to
me.”
Marylicious: “Were you nervous?”
Eric: “Not really. I’ve been in singing
competitions, I’ve been on the radio in Taiwan,
so it’s not new.”
Marylicious: “That’s awesome.”
Eric: “Yup, I just sang it, and that
was it. I didn’t know how much time I had so I
sang the whole song. I had a lot of fun. But next
time – if there is one – I might try Chinese songs.”
