Business Treks

Treks are a tradition at MIT Sloan. They are best described as field trips to business or educational destinations. The BioMedical Business Club promotes or sponsors three treks each year. The treks are designed to help students learn more about the major players in the life science industries by visiting various the departments of a variety of companies and gaining exposure to the industry environment. At the same time, businesses are introduced to the diverse and energetic students interested in the life sciences at MIT Sloan.

The club treks are organized by 1st year MBA students, and we are currently seeking organizers to lead their class.  Contact club officers if you are interested in contributing or leading.

NY/NJ BioMedical Trek

Created by the Class of 2003 and originally named "Pharma Day," the NY/NJ BioMedical Trek is a two-day event during IAP when club members visit pharmaceutical and medical device companies in NY and NJ. Highlights from the 2005 trek include:

  • Merck & Co.,
  • Ethicon (a Johnson & Johnson company),
  • Pfizer,
  • Alumni reception, and
  • an evening snow storm.

MassTechTrek

The MassTechTrek is the child of the MIT Sloan Media Tech Club. Originally created as a tour of greater Boston high tech companies, the trek has since expanded to include a dedicated biotech "track" featuring device, pharma, and biotech companies. The three-day event in 2005 featured:

  • Amgen,
  • Millennium Pharmaceuticals,
  • Novartis Pharma (NIBR),
  • BiogenIdec,
  • Boston Scientific,
  • Philips Medical, and
  • Transform Pharmacuticals.

Silicon Valley Trek

Also a creation of the MIT Sloan Media Tech Club, the BBC is working with MediaTrek to develop a biotech track to be held in parallel.
