Sept 20-21, 2004: Japanese Documentary "Project X"top

Japan Club hosted a showing of the Japanese business documentary TV program, "Project X**." We chose two programs for this year, "Made in Japan - Launch of the SONY Legacy" and "Battle for the Soul of HONDA." (Click to enlarge photos)

Kevin Choy (MBA '05)
"It is not often that one sees a documentary and not only learns but also is inspired. It is even rarer when the film is about a company. “The Battle for the Soul of Honda” motivates one to be successful in business: to become a leader, make the extra effort, and strive to achieve the unthinkable."

Jessica Dolak (LFM '06)
"The Honda movie (Project X) was very insightful. I found the history lesson fascinating, however even more interesting was the insight into the Japanese culture and more specifically the culture within Honda in the early days of manufacturing automobiles."

Howard C. Tang (MBA '06)
"I was thoroughly inspired by the "Project X" video that documented Sony and the challenges faced when entering new foreign markets. The dedication, perseverance, and bravery of Sony's first salesmen is something I hope to emulate as I prepare to enter the business world myself.

The "Project X" video that highlighted Honda's achievement with the development of the Civic CVCC has really shown that business goals can successfully co-exist with the desire to improve the world we all live in. Bravo Honda!"

Christy Prilutski (LFM '06)
"The Sony and Honda documentaries were outstanding! They provided not only business lessons, but cultural insight into Japanese business and society, material for debate on leadership styles and the ability to motivate and drive change within an organization, and also motivational stories of success against great odds."

Jeremy Weinstein (LFM '06)
"I only attended the sony presentation and thought that it was very informative...more so than a speaker would have been saying the same things that every other speaker says."

**"PROJECT X" is the best and most popular business documentary TV program in Japan, broadcasted by the Japanese Public Television Station, NHK. Each episode picks up a historical success story of a Japanese company and introduces the inside stories of people's efforts.
