Housemaster, GRT, and RAA Jobs at SLP

Housemaster Program
Housemasters are faculty who live in a graduate or undergraduate residence hall and whose role has many dimensions. From arranging community building activities, working with the student government, to advising individual students, Housemasters make a real difference in the lives of students and have a pulse on student life on campus. We have 14 Housemasters and 4 Associate Housemasters in the system. A Housemaster is a senior faculty member, while an Associate Housemaster is usually a junior faculty or administrative staff member.

Graduate Resident Tutor (GRT) Program
Tutors - or Graduate Resident Tutors (GRTs), as they are officially known - have been an essential component of MIT's residential system ever since that system was inaugurated in the 1960s. Although they are not tutors in the academic sense, they most assuredly serve as tutors in the broader, more humanistic sense of caring for the welfare of others. Tutors at MIT are graduate students (and often their spouses) to whom the care of undergraduates has been entrusted.

Residential Associate Advisor (RAA) Program
Resident Associate Advisors (RAAs) have an enormous impact on their advisees’ formative first-year experiences at the Institute. RAAs are leaders amongst their peers and play a significant role in the lives of other MIT students. No day is the same and things you do that might seem small in your own mind could mean the world to another student. An attentive, listening ear, a pat on the back, or a referral to the correct resource can pay large dividends in the end.
