The Association of Independent Living Groups (AILG) membership is comprised of representatives from alumni house corporations from each of the 37 fraternities, sororities, and independent living groups (FSILGs). The main purpose of the organization is to promote excellence in its member living groups by stressing the values of intellectual achievement, social awareness, community involvement, economic integrity, and interdependent living. The AILG is vitally interested in the continuity, individuality, and autonomy of the MIT associated independent residences.
The AILG currently meets at four regularly scheduled times during the academic year, in addition to more frequent meetings of the members of the Board of Directors.
Meetings are generally attended by the president and treasurer (or like officers) of each Alumni Corporation or Trust, undergraduate officers of the Interfraternity Council, and members of the MIT administration.
IRDF Board of Allocation:
The Board of Allocation of the Independent Residence Development Fund, as a subgroup of the AILG, reviews requests for funding by fraternities, sororities, and independent residences, and makes decisions on the allocation of IRDF monies in support of those requests. Board members are appointed by the President or Chancellor of MIT on the recommendation of the Steering Committee as vacancies occur.
