Fraternity Recruitment
Fraternity recruitment is the process
by which fraternities meet new people, introduce potential new
members to the fraternity and ultimately ask them to join. Interested
individuals attend events sponsored by the fraternities where
they have a chance to meet and interact with the brothers and
learn about the fraternity. Our fraternities are able to recruit
and select new members throughout the year; however they typically
select most of their new members during the Formal Recruitment
period at the beginning of the fall term.
Formal Recruitment is a collaborative
effort by all the fraternities to recruit new members, promoting
the benefits associated with membership and highlighting the
opportunities found only within the fraternity community. In
addition to Formal Recruitment in the fall term, recruitment
occurs throughout the spring term beginning with the Interfratenity
Council and fraternity sponsored recruitment events at the beginning
of the term. Each of our
fraternities handles their recruitment and membership selection
a little differently, so it is important to talk with a fraternity
specifically about its recruitment process.
Our fraternities host a variety of different recruitment activities,
including dinners, paint ball outings, Boston Harbor cruises,
band parties, etc…just to name a few. The fraternity community
strives to personify it values during their recruitments events
by only holding activities that are in good taste, are alcohol
free, and do not bad-mouth other fraternities. Events that incorporate
any of the previous things do not accurately represent the fraternity
community and its desire to promote the highest of standards.
In addition to holding awesome recruitment events, it’s
important for each fraternity to ensure that each person participating
in recruitment events (potential new members) doesn’t’
feel pressured to 1) stay at an event for longer than desired,
2) take part in an activity that he/she doesn’t feel comfortable
taking part of, or 3) join an organization without having questions/concerns
addressed and answered. It is encouraged that you ask for information
about the fraternity (cost, time commitment, etc…) and
make sure you are clear of the expectations of membership.
