Greek and Independent Living Groups
Independent Living Groups

Independent Living Groups have been a part of MIT since the early 1970’s. ILGs are small, independent houses at MIT which focus on cooperative living. MIT has five ILGs, each of which has a unique culture and lifestyle. Four are co-ed, and one is all female. Each house is a closely-knit community in which the members know each other well and work together to maintain their house and their lifestyle. All five houses come together to form the Living Group Council, or LGC.

There are many ways of participating and getting involved in an ILG, even during your first year at MIT. Most houses have non-residential options and programs, so you can participate fully in social and group events before you become a residential member. In addition, many houses have meal plans, where you can regularly join the house for home-cooked meals.
