Leadership
LeaderShape
MIT LeaderShape
is an IAP program open to all undergraduates – applications
are available in October. LeaderShape is an intensive six-day
leadership-development and community-building experience. Throughout
the program, students develop skills in problem solving, professional
ethics, decision-making, dealing with uncertainty, working within
a diverse community, and interpersonal communication.
The program includes a variety of topics and activities, including
action planning, team building, group decision-making, and conflict
resolution. Sustained faculty-student interaction is central
to the experience. Most decisions and activities take place
in small "clusters", which provide supportive, safe
environments that promote learning and develop new skills and
attitudes.
Each participant creates an individual plan of action, the
hallmark of the LeaderShape curriculum. Each plan of action
is designed to bring positive change to the campus community,
and is carried out during the following academic year. The Student
Activities Office sponsors this program annually during IAP.
