The
red dot, completing the alphabet "A", signifies the entrepreneurial
spirit, which SMA sets out to inculcate among its students. The
blue circle represents the stylised globe, the collaboration and
the link halfway round the world between Singapore and MIT, and
also depicts the use of interactive distance education technology
as a new tool for education and research.

Front
Cover Design Concept
The five branches of the leaf represent the five SMA programmes.
Embedded at the heart of the leaf is the SMA logo which symbolises
the source of knowledge. The radiance of the leaf, making it the
brightest in the forest, depicts the uniqueness of SMA. It also
reflects the graduates of SMA, fully-equipped and ready to contribute
to Singapore's economy. Surrounding the SMA logo are two semi-transparent
semicircles. The bigger one represents the world while the smaller
one symbolises SMA's use of interactive distance technology to communicate
across time zones, borders and boundaries.
The front cover was designed by an SMA student, Vignesh Ezhilarasan
(S.M. 2002/2003 intake - IMST programme)

SMA
was one of the first partnerships between our local universities
and a top overseas university to help transform Singapore into a
global hub for world-class tertiary education. SMA has done well.
One notable achievement is a highly successful joint research project
related to integrated circuits, involving multi-institutional and
intercontinental collaboration, which would not have been possible
without SMA.
