Project Abstract:

Accurate software size estimation and effort prediction is a key factor for project planning and resource allocation. J2EE application, because of its intrinsic difference from traditional software, demands tailored size estimation methods. Based on the three-tier structure of J2EE applications, a size estimation approach identifying different scale metrics for Presentation Tier, Business Logic Tier and Data Persistence Tier is proposed. Data mining techniques are used to build an effort prediction model. Feasibility tests have been conducted on J2EE applications in a software development department. Test results showed that the new approach based on three-tier structure of J2EE applications has superior performance and it is more suitable for J2EE application development.
