Project Abstract:

The operational flow of drilling rig construction comprises of several sub-operations, each with their own set of resource requirements. With the limited resources in the yard, it is even more imperative that usage of precious resources such as labor, space, and operational support tools is utilized to give the optimum output in terms of high throughput and low cost and lead-time. Three areas of operations are looked into to improve the usage of these three resources. In the area of labor loading, effective methods of manpower forecasting are explored so as to better predict the future demand of the specialized manpower. For the space operational improvement, the inventory management of one commonly used material is studied with the aim of formalizing the replenishment policy and st¨ZA4e space reduction. Lastly, a set of heuristic is designed to optimize the inventory level and the usage method of one operational support resource so as to achieve a lower cost.
