Minutes from Snowboard Team/Club meeting on 10/22 held in Bexley Lounge

Twelve people showed up for our meeting, and 5 e-mailed us in advance stating why they were unable to come. Thank you to all who came or just notified us that they still existed, and were not eaten by wild llamas.

Announcements:

We will be selling black zip up hoodies with "Tech Snow" written on them in white lettering. Contact Ryan if interested.

There is a rumor going around that killington may be opening this Saturday. If this rumor is verified we will be taking a trip up there this weekend. Thus, be prepared for an e-mail from Ryan to pack up your gear, tune your board, load up the car, and bring food for a barbecue. GO SNOW! (ed.: confirmed...killington is opening friday, oct. 25))

On a similar note... BUY SEASON PASSES! The threedom season passes are $249 for all students (with student id), and will provide unlimited access to three mountains: Waterville, Loon, and Cranmore. If you still haven't bought one... e-mail Ryan. Get one as soon as possible, (preferably by the end of October), as there is something strange going on with the dates. (When buying one, remind Ryan to put MIT Snowboard in the "Rep" spot in the lower left corner or else the snowboard club won't get any credit). For those who have bought theirs, great, and keep on promoting sales!

"Jackass" the movie is coming out on Friday. We may have a group going out to see it opening day. If interested, contact... oh you know it by now.

We gave away the movie "Luminous Llama," to someone. Apparently, no one really wanted it (well the first winner at least), and it took a second raffle to give it away. In the spirit of that, it has probably been raffled off again. If you want to see it... find out who has it.

Now to the thing we have all been waiting for...

THE BUDGET!!!!

(isn't it so interesting)

We have two sources of money right now: $900 from the UA that must be spent before the semester, and 1550 from the club sports athletics department.

$900 budget:

$100 for advertising stickers. Design will be made by Tim Hong, and should be really cool.
$200 for trips (Lift Tickets and Transportation)
$600 Capital (Wax, miscelaneous snowboard care stuff, etc...)

$1550 budget:

$600 league fees:
USCSA and USASA fees. USCSA is a fee for one team, and will be covered by this. We will also pay individual USASA fees if you are planning to compete. However, if you are planning to compete, please contact Ryan so we can get the correct number of memberships. Also, please contact Ryan if you are considering competing, as he will answer any questions you have about competition. From what he has said, competitions are really lax and are more just about having fun on one's board.

$750 Contest Fees:
This covers USASA memberships, and funding for competions at Loon and Waterville, in addition to other competitions in the New Hampshire circuit.

Unfortunately, the club sport board is not giving money for transportation, i.e. gas or rental cars. This puts us in a jam, as we have to travel long distances... (unless we want to board on that little mountain thirty minutes outside of boston, that usually has about 1 inch of snow on it-- that is probably the best way to turn all of our boards into rock boards...). Fortunately, many people on the team have cars, so we will probably take the least gas guzzling cars and just have everyone pitch in for gas. We will sort out the technicalities later.

On a similar note, we are still working on getting 15 passenger vans from the athletic department. Ryan is optimistic... somewhat.

Next meeting will be some undetermined time in the future. However, during the season we will have regular meetings about every two weeks where we sit around, watch snowboard videos and discuss relevant issues. Then we will have tuning sessions in the bexley basement where we wax our boards and sharpen edges. We will figure out a time that is best for all of us later, probably after IAP.

So get psyched, as this is going to be a great season.... and Think Snow!!
