Solaris Data Backup Utility 5.1.1 is the limited edition version of the SolsticeTM BackupTM 5.1 product. It includes the following features:
- Ability to back up a single server to a single, locally-attached backup device
- Automated and reliable management of the task of protecting data
- Non-automated backup devices (single devices) in 4 mm, 8 mm, and 1/4 inch formats
- Easy-to-use GUI tools to simplify configuration, management, and other backup-related administrative tasks
- Supports 64-bit file systems in the Solaris 7 operating environment
The Solaris Data Backup Utility provides a subset of the features found in the Solstice Backup 5.1 product. It uses the same administrative interface and configuration files as Solstice Backup 5.1, easing the transition for customers who decide to purchase a full function solution found in the Solstice Backup family of products. Specifically, Solaris Data Backup Utility does not support backup of clients over the network, nor does it support automated backup devices such as tape libraries or jukeboxes.

Solstice Backup allows a Solaris operating environment-based server to provide automated, high-performance backup, recovery, and storage management services to a wide array of machines on the network. This heterogeneous platform support enables a consistent, centralized approach to data storage management across the enterprise.
Solstice Backup, through the use of its SNMP module, can be integrated with Solstice Site ManagerTM, Solstice Domain ManagerTM, and Solstice Enterprise ManagerTM for improved, centralized network management of large, complex environments.

Solstice Backup provides simple, centralized administration through a single, unified view of the entire data management operation from any point on the network. All Solstice Backup applications are cooperatively managed and fully integrated, greatly simplifying administration in a large, dynamic environment. Intuitive user interfaces simplify administrative tasks such as configuring clients and servers and setting up enterprise-wide backup schedules for file systems and databases.
Network users can also back up, recover, or archive their local files without assistance from the system administrator.

Solstice Backup delivers high-speed backup, through parallel processing of client backup, that can be directed to multiple devices simultaneously. This dramatically improves client performance and backup throughput for reduced backup time.
Improved Utilization of Resources
Many of the advanced storage management applications enable more effective use of system, storage, and administrative resources. Through archival services, data can be optionally removed from disk for conservation of storage space once it has been safely stored offline. Hierarchical storage management services automatically moves less frequently used data on disk to less expensive media, freeing up online storage space. Automated media handling such as labeling and mounting media reduces operator intervention.

Solstice Backup Server Edition
Solstice Backup Server Edition brings high-performance, automated, unattended parallel backup and restore capabilities to stand-alone servers. Server Edition is ideally suited for backup and restore services for high-volume database and file servers. Server Edition is able to perform a simultaneous, parallel backup from 32 different (non-RAID based) hard disks storing data on 16 different tape drives concurrently. Server Edition is pre-configured to support autochangers and advanced storage management options and can be upgraded to Network Edition to support network backups.
Solstice Backup Network Edition
Solstice Backup Network Edition delivers network storage backup for distributed networks of servers and clients. It is pre-configured to support ten client connections including the server. Network Edition is ideally suited for multi-platform, enterprise-wide installations that provide the same parallel backup, restore, and concurrent device support as is available with Solstice Backup Server Edition.
A storage node is an option that is used in conjunction with Solstice Backup Network Edition. It provides the capability to distribute network backup performance. It also allows a Solstice Backup server to utilize storage devices attached to a remote machine (for example, storage nodes) and ensures client machines get backed up to the nearest storage node server.

Solstice Database Module for Oracle (SDMO) is an application that simplifies and seamlessly integrates the backup of your mission-critical Oracle database with Solstice Backup. Solstice Database Module for Informix (SDMI) delivers online data protection for Informix UNIX databases by providing a high-performance connection to the Informix On-line Backup and Restore (ON-bar) Utility. SDMI seamlessly integrates Informix backup and recovery into Solstice Backup's comprehensive, enterprise-wide storage management solution. Solstice Backup Module for Microsoft SQL Server
When used in conjunction with Solstice Backup, the Solstice Backup Module for Microsoft SQL Server provides reliable, high performance online data protection for Microsoft SQL Servers. This product extends Solstice Backup scheduling and media management services to SQL Server databases using DUMP and LOAD commands through the SQL Server Named Pipes Interface. Each system running the database must be licensed with this module.
Solstice Backup Module for Microsoft Exchange Server
When used in conjunction with Solstice Backup, the Solstice Backup Module for Microsoft Exchange Server provides reliable, high performance online data protection for Microsoft Exchange Servers. This product extends Solstice Backup scheduling and media management services to Microsoft Exchange Applications Servers through Exchange/Backup/Restore API. Each system running an Exchange application must be licensed with this module.

Solstice Archive
Solstice Archive is an application that provides safe, reliable, organized, long-term data storage and retrieval services as well as disk grooming. Solstice Archive optionally removes the archived data from the disk for improved online storage utilization.
Solstice Hierarchical Storage Manager (HSM)
Solstice HSM provides policy-driven, transparent data migration from disks to tape, or optical storage devices, to allow system administrators to more effectively manage their scarce network storage resources. These policies can easily be tuned to optimize resources. Once implemented, the local hard disk is monitored according to these policies.
Solstice Storage Management Suite
Solstice StorageSuite is an integrated, comprehensive solution that automates
the entire storage management process and creates a centralized storage center for large, distributed enterprises.
StorageSuite is made up of Solstice Backup, Archive, and HSM applications available at a price less than the combined individual components. Solstice StorageSuite is for customers who take a mission-critical view of data protection and storage management.
