Tiger got to hunt,
Bird got to fly;
Man got to sit and wonder, "Why, why, why?"
Tiger got to sleep,
Bird got to land;
Man got to tell himself he understand.

Am I actually a theoretical particle physicist? Yes.
My Ph.D. lineage

CAUTION !!!

The following is a really big picture of my head

This is what I look like. I don't like you.

This is Sean Patrick Robinson's (aka spatrick, aaka Tangent Man) home page. You'll find information here on various things that interest me, mostly physics related, but not all. I also have a bunch of links here that I find useful to have on my start page. Finally, there's some stuff here that will interest the non-physicsts who may have wandered in here because they know me, or something (hi mom!).

I don't like pages with all sorts of flashy crap on them, so mine will never have anything but a simple blank background, some links, some text, and a few nice pictures. No annoying background MIDIs, no annoying frames (for now, at least), and no annoying Java popup crap. Most people find *me* irritating enough as it is. Well, here's a little exception; I think this little scrolling marqee thing that I stole from my friend Dan is just too cool. I have it spewing the contents of my .zsig file (although it's not actually referencing the file itself...I couldn't figure out how to do that).

Oh, well. View my source. Got any suggestions? I'm spatrick@mit.edu. Last updated: 12/06/00, Partial Update: 6/23/03

Useful Science Links: (useful resources for scientists...well, at least they're useful for me)

Back to Top

There's lots of science webpages out there, and not all are that reliable for facts (as discussed here). Anybody can write a web page to spout their opinions; that doesn't make them an authoratative source (just click here to see an example of such spouting by me in a non-science context). So, here is a list of what I consider to be good science links. I used to have a list of crap science links, but I felt stupid maintaining it, so now you're on your own. You can try using these clues to identify Bad Science for youself. The following links that are labeled "Advanced" are aimed at a non-laymen audience (e.g. they may be class notes, or something). The ones that aren't labeled "Advanced" are intended to be understandable to most anyone; their content, however, is no less cutting-edge than the "Advanced" sites (often, its more so).

Here are some pages that I haven't decided how to fit into my page yet. They talk about stuff. They are good.
Stupid Skeptic Tricks: The tricks that people can use to make you accept an invalid argument.
This really explains why good science is good and why bad science is bad.

I can't exactly say what my research is on right now, but here are some papers that have proven relevant to it (Some of these may have resricted access):
