Advantages:
- EI is the most widely used ionization
mode.
- Spectrum are easily analyzed since ions
formed are the molecular ion or fragments of the molecule.
Disadvantages:
- The ionization process transfers relatively
large amounts of energy to the molecule and may result in extensive
fragmentation.
- The sample must be in the gas phase to
ionize, therefore heating of the sample may be required.
