Advantages:
- Clean spectra without the use of an internal
calibration standard.
- Easy to see and assign the fragments
Disadvantages:
- Does not give the exact mass of the observed
ions.
- Usually accurate to within ±
0.5 amu.
Notes:
- Only a small amount of sample is needed;
just enough to cover the bottom of a small vial. The small screw
top vials are preferred.
- Minimum liquid sample needed for analysis:
1 pmol/ml x 500 ml
