Apple Bake is an annual event hosted every fall by Burton-Conner, an undergraduate residence hall at MIT. The dorm invests in roughly 200 lbs of apples and distributes them to residents about a week in advance.

By the weekend of Apple Bake, the halls are filled with the scent of apples frying, baking, roasting and sauteing. This year, over 100 entries were submitted, and $500 was given out in prize money.

The judging categories included pies, crisps, cobblers and cakes, appetizers, entrees and the anything-goes "miscellaneous apple" category where prizes went to everything from homemade ice cream to a short stop-motion video.

It is a great time for all those involved, and a number of faculty and deans have made regular appearances as special guest judges. Once the judging process is complete, the doors open to a large crowd of students eagerly awaiting the opportunity to gorge themselves on the culinary prowess of their friends and neighbors.
