Prosthetic hands have come a long way, but their high-tech dexterity comes at a price. Now engineers have designed a soft, inflatable, low-cost neuroprosthetic hand that lets users perform daily activities as well as those with heavier prosthetics.
“Searching for multiplicity, for a plurality of intellectual traditions and for possibly marginalized perspectives, is the key principle behind the alternative search engines that I design,” HASTS student Rodrigo Ochigame says. “I want to expose people to ideas they wouldn’t find otherwise.”
“There’s exactly one generation of young people who have gone to school in a pandemic, and if we want to do well by them, we need to listen to them,” says Justin Reich. His team talked to over 250 educators and 4,000 students, and found Covid-19 was far from the only concern.
The MIT Solar Electric Vehicle Team took first place at the 2021 American Solar Challenge. During the five-day race, their solar car, Nimbus — designed and built entirely by students — traversed 1,109 miles, averaging 38.4 miles per hour.
