Spectator Sports

Bostonians are passionate sports fans, and Boston is home to four professional league teams: Boston Red Sox (baseball), New England Patriots (American football), Boston Bruins (ice hockey), and the Celtics (basketball). It is also home to the New England Revolution (soccer).

Every year many gather to participate in the Boston Marathon, and in the fall, Head of the Charles Regatta draws large crowds and many competitors.

In this section we list the most popular sports in Boston (and the United States) and where you can catch a game!

American Football

The New England Patriots are the official football team of Boston. It is a very strong football team, having won 3 of the last 4 Super Bowl championships. Tickets to a Patriots game are usually very hard to come by since they sell out early, and can be very expensive. However, if you have a chance, you should definitely see a game. Football season begins in September and ends in January. Learn more about the team at: www.patriots.com

Gillette Stadium is the home of the New England Patriots. The stadium is about an hour's drive from downtown Boston.

Fenway Park is the oldest ball park in the United States. It is also the home of the Boston Red Sox (major league baseball). Boston fans are very loyal to their team, and since winning the World Cup in 2004 and 2007, Boston Red Sox have become iconic. The reason for this is that the last time the Red Sox won a World Cup series was in 1918. Learn more at: www.redsox.com

Baseball season usually runs from April to September. Tickets are usually expensive and hard to come by, especially for big games like Red Sox vs. their rivals, the New York Yankees.
