While Boston has many fine museums, the following is a list of museums that target children specifically or have programs/exhibits of interest to children of all ages

This is a great place for children to explore and learn new things all the while having fun. There is also a separate play space for children under 3 years of age. On Friday nights from 5-9pm, admission is $1.


Museum of Science

The museum of science has great offerings for the curious mind. The museum also has a small play area for little kids and toddlers. For older children, there are puzzles and other interesting things on the second floor of the play space.

Dinosaur and animal lovers will enjoy this museum, which offers programs for children ages 4 and up.

On the last Saturday of each month, the ICA organizes themed Play Dates, free for families.


The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art

Named after the author of the classic children book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, this child-friendly museum celebrates art that children are first exposed to through picture books. They also have regularly scheduled story times. It is an almost 2-hour drive from Cambridge, although you can take the Commuter Rail to Springfield and catch a bus to Amherst.
