Lal Jan is the deputy secretary of the Balochistan province in Pakistan. He has worked for more than a decade in the office of the chief minister, serving under five chief ministers from different political parties. His office designs and implements official provincial policy, oversees the line departments under the provincial government, and coordinates meetings of the provincial government with the national government and foreign delegations. He holds a master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Balochistan and is writing a master’s thesis in environmental management and policy at the Balochistan University of Information Technology. At MIT, he will focus on regional and state level integrated development planning, public-sector resource management, and urban environmental management.
