MIT Security Studies Program is located in Kendall Square, Cambridge, across the street from the Cambridge Marriott and the Kendall/MIT Coop, and next door to the Kendall Square MBTA subway station. Parking in this area is very limited. There is a public garage on Third Street, half a block from the intersection of Broadway and Third Street. A limited number of metered spaces are available on surrounding streets, and free parking is occasionally available along Memorial Drive, adjacent to the Charles River.
Our offices are located on the 6th floor of MIT Building E38.
By subway, take the MBTA Red Line to the Kendall Square station. 292 Main Street is next door to the station if you’re coming from elsewhere in Cambridge, or across the street if you’re coming from Boston. The building number is difficult to find, so look for the MIT Press Bookstore, which is on the first floor of the building.
There are also several MBTA buses that stop across the street from our building: Routes 64, 68, 85 and CT2. In addition, on weekdays the EzRide Bus Service is available from Boston’s North Station.
Taxi fare from the airport is generally around $20-$25. The trip usually takes 15 minutes to half an hour, depending on time of day.
Take the free airport shuttle bus to the Blue Line subway station. Take the train inbound to Government Center. Go upstairs and take the Green Line one stop to Park Street. Change for the Red Line (outbound toward Alewife). Take the Red Line two stops to Kendall Square.
Take the Sumner Tunnel. Stay left and get on I-93 North. Take exit 26 (Storrow Drive) and stay in the left lane. Proceed 3/4 mile to the first exit on the left, Government Center/Kendall Square. Stay right. Turn right at the stop sign. Proceed across Longfellow Bridge to Broadway, in Cambridge. Take a left onto Ames Street and another left onto Main Street.
Take Exit 18, Cambridge/Allston. After the tolls, follow the signs for Cambridge. Go straight ahead, crossing Storrow Drive and a small bridge over the Charles River. Take a right onto Memorial Drive. Stay in the left lane and look for the sign for Kendall Square and veer right to the light. A half block past the light, on Wadsworth Street, make a left onto Amherst Street. A few short blocks later, make a right on Ames Street. At the light, make a right onto Main Street.
Take Route 2 East into Cambridge. The road changes from a major highway. Take a right onto Alewife Brook Parkway, passing the Alewife T station. (Or, if you want to avoid trying to park in Kendall Square, park at Alewife and take the Red Line inbound, to Kendall.) Alewife Brook Parkway becomes Fresh Pond Parkway, and eventually intersects with Memorial Drive, at the Charles River. Turn left on Memorial Drive. Stay on Memorial Drive for 3 or 4 miles, and follow the directions above (from Memorial Drive).
Take Route 93 to exit 26A (the Route 28 N/Leverett exit, toward Cambridge) Turn left onto Storrow Drive. Stay in the left lane and exit at Government Center/Kendall Square Cambridge.
