Short description:
RSTR is a web site which facilitates sharing of research efforts in multi-university
research initiative (MURI). In its core its a repository of research abstracts and
research papers, but also a calendar of events. As such, it allows the following functions:
- Submission of different types of material
- Maintenance of submitted materials (capability to update/erase it)
- Browsing of different types of material
- Searching
There is slightly more to it, however. The content is searchable and
browsable.
Architectural setup:
- Web Server/Application Server: AOLServer running an Sun UltraSparc 2/60
with 2 processors.
- Database Server: Solid Web Engine V2.3 running on a Sun SparcStation ?
- Both running Solaris.
Scripted in:
AOLserver Tcl - provides excellent database connectivity and server APIs.
Features (no third-party components used, i.e. everything's done by yours
truly)
- Fully automated document submission process--documents can be FTP'd onto the web server
or through a link to the outside web -or- FTP server. All the links are checked
for accessibility upon submission and periodically afterwards.
- Browsing/formatting of all of the dynamic content, bibliographically correct.
- Calendar of events (Snapshot)
- Automatic bibliography generator for all papers which are contained in the database.
- Custom search engine which allows logical connectives and wildcards. (Snapshot 1) (Snapshot 2)
- Completely web-based custom administration suite. Allows the users to
maintain
content through their browsers. (Snapshot)
For super-users, allows to administer
users, user groups etc.
- Custom hierarchical permissions system.
- Custom submission/administration activity log generation.
- Automated integrity checker--consistency of static WWW/FTP links is periodically checked,
then a report is e-mailed to the Web master.
