Intellectual Property Statement

By entering the contest, STC, the Hotel, and the entrant agree to the following:

  • The student(s) retains ownership holds the copyright to their entry.
  • The hotel has the option of purchasing (for the sum of $500) right to use an entry for its advertising and its web site for a period of 1 year. If the hotel exercises this option, then
    1. The student(s) agrees not to sell or give this design to entities that the hotel may consider its commercial competition without the permission of the hotel. The hotel agrees that such permission will not be unreasonably withheld.
    2. The hotel agrees to give full and fair credit to the student(s) on its web site and in all publicity which uses the entry.
    3. The hotel may choose to enter its web site into other competitions, with the student(s) entry as part of the hotel's submission.  All prizes and awards from such competitions are retained by the hotel.  The hotel will ensure that the student contribution is fairly credited.  The hotel hopes that any student whose work is featured on an award-winning web site will cite the award in their own resume and/or portfolios!
  • The hotel does not have any ownership rights to any invention or discovery the student(s) may make in the process of creating their entry. However, the student(s) agree to make available to the hotel (if the hotel exercises its option) everything needed to use their entry on the hotel web site, for the duration of the 1-year period.  This includes any inventions or discoveries the students may have made that are necessary to enable the presentation of their entry on the hotel's web site.
  • The Hotel has the option to renew the design contract for another year, under the same pricing scheme and intellectual property agreements stated above.
